Getting to Akrata
Akrata is just a 1 hour and 45 minute drive from Athens International Airport, offering a stunning, unspoiled local destination. Here, the Mediterranean Sea meets lush greenery, creating a breathtaking connection with the deep blue waters.
We recommend renting a car or bus transport, as taxis tend to be costly and train services are public, which can pose safety risks when carrying luggage. For larger groups, hiring a private transfer with a small bus is also available! See Glavas Tours & Transfer for example!
By Car
We strongly suggest renting a car during your visit to Greece (provided someone in your group is comfortable driving), as it is the most effective way to discover the mainland. There is no need for an International Driving Permit; your Australian driver’s license is sufficient! This opens opportunity to drive an explore the West Coast and even see islands like Lefkada and Corfu (some boats allow for vehicles to board).
If you’re arriving at Athens International Airport, you’ll find multiple car rental companies right at the terminal. You can conveniently pre-book your vehicle and pick it up upon arrival. Below are some options, but be sure to explore and choose the one that best suits your needs! We highly recommend you book in advance before you arrive in Athens to avoid disappointment and inflated prices.

By Bus
If you choose not to drive, the next recommended means of travel is bus. If you are coming from Athens International Airport, it is a two leg bus route. Right outside Athens International Airport (arrivals level) you will need to first take the X93 service, to its final stop at Athens Kifissos central bus station. See the X93 bus route here. You can also catch a taxi from the airport to this bus station (30 minute travel by car).
Bus departure Location: Athens Airport Arrivals Terminal (between Exit 4 and 5).
If you are already in Athens City or coming from Port Piraeus (from an island) you can catch a short taxi ride to Kifissos Central Bus station (ΚΤΕΛ Κηφισού).
Once you’re at Kifissos you will need to buy a ticket from the KTEL ticket office for the journey from Kifissos to Aigeira (head towards the kiosk with the sign of ΚΤΕΛ ΑΧΑΪ́ΑΣ (ΠΑΤΡΑ), who are issuing all tickets for destinations within the county of Achaia (see photo).
The bus journey is a comfortable coach ride with air condition and luggage storage underneath. In 1 hour and 45 minutes, you will be dropped right in the heart of Akrata at the bus station which is right opposite a taxi rank that can take you to your nearby accomodation!
